Jessica's Story
On one cold winter morning, my phone rang--the voice is very soft; I have to listen, and listen harder.  I was hearing the voice of a young pregnant woman in dire need of a place to call home, a safe place to stay.  A place where she would be loved, nurtured, and guided through a decision she had made, to give life to her unborn child.

It is always like Christmas morning to me when I receive these telephone calls, I get so excited, and then remind myself: Alice you need to pray, Alice you need to ask the necessary questions, Alice take notes.  Just the sound of a young girl pleading for a place to live, let alone the fact that her baby is expected within months of this call, turns my heart to mush.  I love her already.

We chat and she does an excellent job of answering the questions that I have hurried through, knowing I need to meet her face to face before I agree to provide housing.  She agrees to meet me the next morning.  She will be taking a bus from Philly to get to her safe and loving place, but she is still frightened.  Little did I know that she would be bringing her belongings knowing deep inside that she had made the perfect choice, to come and life with Mr. Don, Ms. Alice, Maggie and Mollie.

This is where an 8-week journey of loving, mentoring, guiding, and teaching all began.  Little did I know what an ideal guest she would be, so willing to learn and grow.  God had sent me a rose!  When I said that I loved her already, I meant that and still do.   She took each step so gracefully.  Each day we had appointments with local agencies such as WIC, the assistance office and SCAAP.  Lisa and Annette had become Jess's new friends as ones that could relate to her story.  They offered her a helping hand and more affection which she received with great appreciation.

She was able to meet most of her extended family, she even took a chance and tasted fried squirrel!  We shared several meals together, she was like a young child so eager to be accepted and loved.  She told me on several occasions that she felt the "love of God" from so many new people.  She was humbled.  Yes, we have enjoyed taking this journey with Jess, and will continue to take it as long as she needs Mr. Don and Ms. Alice.  Jess decided to go back to Philly to deliver her baby, daddy wanted to be with her during delivery.  She gave birth to baby girl, "Olivia", at 6 lbs.

Olivia and Jess are doing well.  We ask that others would pray for Jess and Olivia, as the Lord would remind you.  I am sure that Jess has taken so much back to Philly, so much more then what she had when she came.  But the most important gift was a relationship with her God and her own little Bible.
